Denny Gardens, Littlemore

A community growing space for everyone
 Live project

Denny Gardens is a community growing space in Littlemore, south Oxford. The land was designated by Oxford City Council for food growing but remained unused for many years. OCLT now leases the site and is working with local residents to bring it back into use as a community-led allotment and garden.

Our aim is to create a welcoming place where people can grow food, learn new skills, spend time outdoors and connect with others in their community.

What we're creating

Denny Gardens will be open and welcoming to people of all ages, backgrounds and levels of growing experience. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or have never planted a seed before, there will be ways to take part.

The plans include:

  • Affordable, accessible growing plots — giving local people space to grow their own fruit, vegetables and other plants, including produce that reflects the cultures and cuisines of Littlemore’s diverse community.

  • Free and low-cost activities — practical and enjoyable workshops covering topics such as growing food, composting and reducing food waste.

  • Volunteering opportunities — flexible ways for people of all ages to get involved, whether occasionally or on a more regular basis.

  • Sustainable growing — using organic methods, composting and water collection, while creating a space that supports biodiversity.

  • Connections with the wider community — building links with local organisations, services and activities so that Denny Gardens becomes part of a wider network of community support in Littlemore.

Growing together

Littlemore is one of Oxford’s most diverse communities, and access to fresh food and good-quality green space matters.

Through Denny Gardens, we want to support local food growing, share skills and create a green space that is shaped by the people who use it. Most importantly, we want it to be a place that genuinely belongs to and reflects the local community.

Get involved

Denny Gardens is still at an early stage, which means it’s a great time to get involved and help shape what happens next.

Whether you’re interested in having a plot, volunteering, taking part in activities or simply finding out more, we’d love to hear from you.
